Piece of crap July 3, 2010 Daena Ortego (Baldwin, LA USA) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
This was my first Epson printer and it will be my last. While it has occasionally printed a decent picture, the trouble it takes to get it to print correctly doesn't make the printer worth the effort or money spent. The paper jams constantly. The printer cartridge printheads are often defective (in fact EVERY cartridge I've bought for this printer has been defective and needed to be immediately replaced... by another defective cartridge). The cartridges are not so cheap that I can afford to replace them constantly -- which I would have to do to get anything printed. Even plain black text looks terrible as the printer leaves gaps, streaks and blobs of ink all over the page.
For the money spent, this thing is NOT worth it. At all. It is infuriating to use and for all the energy expended, you get terrible, blotchy prints and end up pouring money into the ink cartridges.
Banding June 27, 2010 Andrew 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Barely used this printer at all for over a year and then kicked back into photography mode again and the printer prints horrible horizontal banding in every photo I print. Ink cartridges are a pain in the ass to get as you cannot buy them in stores and they are expensive as hell and the paper loader fails and requires cleaning in order for it to work properly. Skip Epson all together and go with another brand, their printers get consistently worse reviews than competing serious photographer photo printers.
Great Printer, Great Price June 11, 2010 J. Shaw (San Francisco, CA) I've used this printer for a few client projects now, and it hasn't disappointed. When working from home, this printer is a great home option that delivers excellent quality prints and photos. This is my first "investment" printer, and it is certainly a step up from my old HP all-in-one. Super easy installation for Mac users, as well. Just download the Snow Leopard drivers from the Epson site and five minutes later you're ready to go.
PROS: Excellent print quality, and stays pretty true to screen colors (not perfect, but as good as one can expect from a home computer). Easy installation, despite the other reviews (and I'm a technophobe, so if I can do it, anyone can!). Printing is very, very consistent when printing multiple copies. Excellent for graphics and photograph printing. This printer can also handle large sizes and different paper qualities, from photos to card stock to art papers.
CONS: None that I can think of, other than the inks do get expensive. As such, I would not recommend this printer for everyday stuff. The printer does not come with a cable, so you'll need to buy one if you don't already have one.
RECOMMENDATION: Use Epson papers with this printer---it does make a huge difference. If you use "normal" printing paper, you'll get disappointing results.
No more Epson printers for me June 6, 2010 June Blue 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this printer for it's ability to print 13x19 and it's price range. While this printer is CAPABLE of printing a few beautiful pictures, it is a hassle to maintain and I have wasted much ink and paper trying to get quality prints from it. Espon designs products that require EPSON papers. I have beautiful Moab rag papers and other fine papers and no matter what, lines result in every print. This printer is decent for glossy papers MADE BY EPSON. But that is basically it's scope. If you want fine art prints this is not the printer for nice papers.
The ink is ridiculously expensive and if you want to print high quality prints you will need to replace the cartridges BEFORE they run out b/c once the inks are low, print quality is lost. Another 100 bucks.
I have also had problems getting this printer to read BRAND NEW INK Cartridges. Epson sent me 2 replacements, but this seems to be a common problem.
I think the trouble most printers cause is ridiculous in the industry. Who else could manufacture something that has so many problem!
My next printer will NOT be an Epson.
Dream machine for wide format on a budget... May 29, 2010 Paul R. Hartung (Milwaukie, OR United States) Unless you need the gloss enhancement of the 1900, this printer will exceed the price-to-performance expectations of discerning image makers. Combined with a CIS and good ink/paper (plus maybe a good printing software like Qimage), the 1400 will have you laughing all the way to the bank. This model is ideally suited for quality and economy, which is why there's plethora information available on how to convert these to continuous ink supplied versions on the web.
If you're in the market, don't hesitate because Epson will soon stop making them as they try to foil the aftermarket work-arounds that prevent them from bilking the general public with their ink prices. It's nice to buck the system and make great prints at a fraction of the cost. Jump in...
